Analysis of an existing product
Prior to the production process of our music video I am going to research a variety of different media formats such as album covers and websites that demonstrate similar aspects of what intend to portray in our dance music video. So I decided upon Disclosure’s album Settle.
Disclosure are formally known for producing house music and within the earlier stages of their career they were perhaps underrated until previously this year they realised the song White Noise which was a successful across the UK launching their careers further. Before this however they were undiscovered and many people didn’t even how many members the band actually consisted of. Therefore the choice of album cover (for the first album) demonstrated what they represent; there’s two young boys sitting in an antique style chair yet their facial features are unclear. This could portray the boy’s intentions to still want to remain slightly mysterious to the audience; with the knowledge that they are in fact brothers both under the age of twenty it is portrayed in the positioning of the two young boys and it frames there possibly close relationship and youth/naivety. The picture is also cropped so that the boys are central and the focal point of the audience reinforcing to us that this is what we should focus on as there is no distracting mise-en-scene. As well as this the font is plain and simple, yet is capital letters so it does not become insignificant but is clear and demonstrates that the album is what you see is what you get. The use of colour also signifies simplicity yet excitement- black and white/orange so the audience are not to expect lovey dovey yet to the point dance tracks.
